One day trip from Prague to Krivoklat castle is a good solution if you have more than 3 days to spend in the Czech capital. This castle seldom appears in the guidelines. Therefore you won’t see there crowds of tourists. Consequently, the service in Krivoklat is quite easy, prices reasonable and the places less busy.

Our one day tour from Prague to Krivoklat castle was quite spontaneous. It was my first trip to this castle and it was very exciting. October was in full bloom and all the forests around were yellow and green. We had best company of friends to discover the location with. It was a nice escape from big city life.

History

There is accurate data about when Krivoklat castle was raised. It was in the 12th century. From this very time it has been an indispensable part of the Czech history. There were several fires burning the castle down. But local people again and again restored and reconstructed the place.

The area has always been a popular hunting destination. Therefore the castle designed to fulfill 2 main goals: to be a prison and a hunting residence for royalty.

We knew these facts and decided to start our day with shooting. Ancient arbalest are available for visitors for some 50 CZK.

Our supervisor was a local man keen on his little business. He has huge knowledge of weapons he provides the tourist with. He teaches how to use this or that crossbow and of course tells interesting stories from his life.

After the shooting we climbed the tower and experienced real excitement viewing the panorama around the castle. The opposite hills, which several hundreds years ago were protecting the castle, at present day solemnly reflect the mood of the nature.

Hiking in Krivoklat

The area around the castle is already discovered and tagged with routes for hiking. It was October afternoon. It was getting dark quite early. Therefore we decided to take the easiest and shortest path for about 3-4 km with almost no escalations.

Fresh air, nature and long walks made us hungry, thus very enthusiastic. Everyone was dreaming of finishing the lap as soon as possible. Finally we reached the town and went for dinner to the best restaurant in the area: U Jelena.

  • Restaurant U Jelena in Krivoklat: Hradní 53, 270 23

Believe me, you will be fascinated with the interior and unique collection of antique furniture. But far more surprising for us was the taste of food. It was traditional Czech dinner with meat, knedlik and beer.

What else will you find in Krivoklat?

On the way to the restaurant we found the following places of interest:

  • Sport bar;
  • Java Museum;
  • Hotel;
  • Post office;
  • Restaurant.

I know that sometimes one day trip is not enough to discover a place. Krivoklat definitely has things to show and secrets to revile. In this case book a room in the hotel which is quite cheap and comfortable.
